Close Enough to Know

The apostle Peter once said to a lame man, "Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk" (Acts 3:6). The Bible tells us that the lame man was miraculously healed and was able to walk and leap. We marvel at the boldness of Peter and John in this circumstance, but was it really boldness?

The basis for Peter's statement was the fact that he knew Jesus and Jesus knew him. Peter had gotten close enough to Jesus to know that if he asked Jesus to do something, it would be done. Peter had heard Jesus say, "...He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to my Father" (John 14:12). Peter had also heard Jesus say, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses..." (Acts 1:8).

We can have the same move of God in our lives that the early Church had, if we will get close enough to Jesus to have confidence in what He has already said that He would do.
